I am having an introspective moment as a junior dev.
I am working in my 3rd company now and have spent the avg amount of time i would spent in a company ( 1- 1.5 years)
I find myself in similar problems and trajectories:
1. The companies i worked for were startups of various scales : an edtech platform, an insurance company (branch of an mnc) and a b2b analytics company
2. These people hire developers based on domain knowledge and not innovative thinking , and expect them to build anything that the PMs deem as growth/engagement worthy ( For eg, i am bad at those memory time optimising programming/ ds/algo, but i can make any kind of android screen/component, so me and people like me get hired here)
3. These people hire new PMs based on expertise in revenue generation and again , not on the basis of innovative thinking, coz most of the time these folks make tickets to experiment with buttons and text colors to increase engagement/growth
4. The system goes into chaos mode soon since their are so many cross operating teams and the PMs running around trying to boss every dev , qa and designer to add their changes in the app.
5. meanwhile due to multiple different teams working on different aspects, their is no common data center with up to date info of all flows, products and features. the product soon becomes a Frankenstein monster.
6. Thus these companies require more and more devs and QAs which are cogs in the system then innovative thinkers . the cogs in the system will simply come, dimwittingly add whatever feature is needed and goto home.
7. the cogs in system which also start taking the pain of tracking the changes and learning about the product itself becomes "load bearing cogs" : i.e the devs with so much knowledge of the product that they can be helpful in every aspect of feature lifecycle .
8. such devs find themselves in no need for proving themselves , in no need for doing innovative work and are simply promoted based on their domain knowledge and impact.
My question is simply this : are we as a dev just destined to be load bearing cogs?
we are doing the work which ideally a manager should be doing, ie maintaining confluence docs with end to end technical as well as business logic info of every feature/flow.
So is that the only definition of a Software Engineer in a technical product?
then how come innovations happen in companies like meta Microsoft google open ai etc?
if i have to guess as a far observer, i would say their diversity in different fields helps them mix and match stuff and lead to innovative stuff.
For eg, the android os team in google has helped add many innovative things in google cloud product and vice versa.
same is with azure and windows . windows is now optomissed to run in cloud machines when at one point it was just a horrible memory hogging and slow pc OS
for small companies, 1 ideology/product/domain is their hero ideology/product/domain .
an insurance company tries to experiment with stuff related to insurances, health, vehicles, and the best innovations they come up with is "lets give user a discount in premium if they do 5000 steps a day for an year".
edtech would say "lets do live streaming for children apart from static videos"
but Android team at google said , "since ai team is doing so well, lets include ai in various system apps and support device level models" ~ a much larger innovation as 2 domains combined to make a product
The small companies are not aiming to be an innovative product, they are just aiming to be a monopoly product. and this is kinda sad4 -
"I never thought I would see my stolen USDT again after falling victim to a sophisticated scam. My heart sank when I realized that my hard-earned funds were gone. Desperate for help, I decided to reach out to a reputable recovery company specializing in cryptocurrency fraud cases that was recommended.

Through their tireless efforts and expertise, Saclux Comptech Specialst managed to recover a significant portion of my stolen USDT. I was overjoyed and immensely grateful for their dedication and commitment to helping victims of cryptocurrency scams.
I cannot thank Saclux Comptech Specialst enough for their exceptional service and for restoring my faith in seeking justice in the world of cryptocurrency. Thanks to their efforts, I was able to recover a substantial amount of my stolen USDT, and I am forever grateful for their assistance." -
Jesus fuck generic number adding in rust is pissing me off
why did I decide to do this
I literally don't have to
let's just add 12 traits and then find out it doesn't know how to divide by usize. well how the hell am I supposed to convert it then. there's no trait for "f64 as f32" so now my shit looks like spaghetti cuz of that, now this...
so let's see I could call into() on usize to get it to be unknown T number... but there's no way for it to know what to convert to and I can't determine if there's any way for me to tell it that
THESE STRAITJACKETS
I might just need a padded room at this rate
*goes to sleep* later
.... required for usize to implement Into<T> wat
😩
I suspect that's gonna be another dead end

Modern title inflation is a piece of shit.
Story time: recent hire from MANGA with multiple (!) AWS certificates.
Spent almost the whole day setting up a simple (one DB to another) replication with AWS Database Migration Service.
Never finished, lied that finished and run simple backup-restore.
I spent 15 minutes configuring migration and 30 minutes running full load + started ongoing replication.
The part of "ongoing replication" was done with cronjob + backup-restore.
Knows dogshit.
Overinflated ego, and organization now need to spend time and money to deal with the person.
Attrition continues...1 -
As its now customary for kids of her age my 9 years old cousin received her first phone. Said phone has just 32gb of internal storage and her continuously putting games on it doesn't help so it constantly gets full and since I'm family's tech guy I'm the one who get called for that... I'd really love to destroy that waste of silicon by throwing it under a bus and then give a Nintendo Switch to my cousin as a better replacement. I hate these Android devices that are obsolete even before they hit the market but most importantly I hate the fact that 9 years old get "smart" phones for no actual fucking reasons.8

Fuck you AMD for being too lazy to implement VK_EXT_fragment_shader_interlock even though your hardware supports it [1]
It's literally *the* best way to implement any sort of order independent transparency ( https://web.archive.org/web/... )
But noo, not enough people are using it so too bad. Now you just have to render transparent objects all fucked up and bad looking on AMD hardware because "we don't feel like it"

In the fast-paced world of construction, where timelines are tight and budgets even tighter, the need for efficient project management tools has never been greater. Enter business intelligence (BI) software, a game-changer for construction companies looking to streamline operations, improve decision-making, and boost overall productivity.
Gone are the days of relying on outdated spreadsheets and manual data entry to track project progress and financial metrics. Today, forward-thinking construction firms are turning to BI software solutions to gain real-time insights into every aspect of their projects.
So, what exactly is construction business intelligence software https://teknobuilt.com/products/... , and how is it revolutionizing the industry?
At its core, BI software aggregates data from various sources within a construction company, including project management systems, accounting software, and even IoT sensors on job sites. This data is then analyzed and visualized in easy-to-understand dashboards, giving stakeholders a comprehensive view of their projects' health and performance.
One of the key benefits of BI software is its ability to identify trends and patterns in construction data that might otherwise go unnoticed. For example, it can flag potential cost overruns before they escalate, or highlight areas where productivity could be improved. Armed with this insight, project managers can make data-driven decisions to keep projects on track and within budget.
Moreover, BI software enables construction companies to forecast future trends and anticipate challenges before they arise. By analyzing historical data and market trends, firms can better allocate resources, negotiate contracts, and mitigate risks, ultimately leading to more successful and profitable projects.
Another advantage of BI software is its ability to enhance collaboration and communication among project teams. By providing a centralized platform for sharing data and insights, BI software ensures that everyone involved in a project is working from the same information, reducing misunderstandings and conflicts.
Furthermore, BI software can help construction companies comply with regulatory requirements and improve transparency with clients and stakeholders. By maintaining accurate records of project expenses, timelines, and milestones, firms can easily demonstrate compliance with industry standards and contractual obligations.
In conclusion, construction business intelligence software is transforming the way construction companies operate, enabling them to work smarter, faster, and more efficiently. By harnessing the power of data analytics, firms can gain a competitive edge in an increasingly competitive industry, delivering projects on time and under budget while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety. As the construction industry continues to evolve, BI software will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in shaping its future. -

so on my new lappy I'm testing XFS. After reading how bloody fast it is, I figured: why not give it a shot!
2 weeks later, I want to go back to ext4. XFS is SSSSOOOOOO fault-intollerant, it breaks my Chrome profile after each forced-poweroff (or power loss). And the on-boot fsck freezes. And after a successful bootup I see the log messages in syslog are all messed up (timestamps are all over the timeline!!!)
it's a mess... A very fast mess.17 -
“Those stitches under my belly hurt, for sure, but what if I… hypothetically, just took manicure scissors, and… was urgently rushed back to hospital for no reason in particular, so to speak?”, — echoed in my head. I was 15. Just out of hospital after hernia surgery, knowing full well they will give me morphine again if I did that.
Yes, they used morphine on a 15-year-old kid. It was a town of 50k people in rural Russia.
Withdrawal syndrome lasted about two weeks that felt like two years. You can't tell if you're asleep or not, you shiver while you constantly think about nothing but morphine, and you're anxious because your grandparents shouldn't know! As if it was ever a 15-year-old kid's fault.
Yes, I, in a way, quit morphine at the age of 15.
The hernia was caused by what my mother did to me, but that's the story for another day.6 -

Soo highlight. I’m a Tech Lead dev, and I happened to have had a gunshot injury in 2021 Dec, and kinda suffered some hectic stuff but long story short, I went through a full year from recovery and blah blah, but anyways after that year when I went back to work my boss(former), asked I go for psychological tests etc, then after that I passed everything as normal but then soon as I went back to work my boss took me to HR for some special performance review process that could mean I get fired or put back in the team again. My question is it this a fair trial when I never got another chance to work again as I was hired??? I need help pls :(4

Cool project, cool people, but everything-just-works™ code makes it hard.
Every component has its own logic for the things that are already made, every table has its own filters and those filters are the same piece of code in every component.
I'll complain about this shit tomorrow as today I spent my day making a fucking table work, can't even copy the shit as it has its own intertangled logic that doesn't make any fucking sense.
Yesterday I ate Bolognese, today I'm working in one.
Lol the funniest thing Iis that dude who wrote this piece of shit is gonna review my code, can't wait for that call.
And yeah useMemo() on every fucking function. Functions pulling shit directly from state and returning it straight away...
Literally this:
const filteredData = useMemo(() => { return stateData }, [stateData])
Ok, what the actual fuck.
The weirdest wtf was that typescript is used as it should, like every case covered correctly. Not sure if gpt or just dumbasses working on this pos.7 -

I really gotta stop accepting food from other people
my birthday was the other day and my roommate wanted to get me something special to eat for free
I said I keep dreaming of the samosa salad from Indian places he would get and I would keep stealing a spoon full of to try (this was after I got sick and insensitive to food so I was cautious)
he insisted it was from this fast food place... that's weird. I don't think it was. he insists all Indian places have it on their menu but he just didn't know. and he was getting this fast food's place one and that's the one I liked. ok. I consent.
I go running, come back, shower, hungry and food arrived, so I scuff down half the samosa salad thing
now I feel like trash
and it tastes nothing like it
it has fucking BBQ sauce in it. no yogurt. it's supposed to be Indian. what the fuck, sweet-ass bqq sauce? the spiciness is some retarded white people taste. this isn't the punch of Indian food.
30% of the mass is cucumber. wat. there's fucking pomegranate seeds in it so you can't even chew it. what am I even eating. the samosa pieces are all soggy and not crunchy like I remember. the spiciness sucks. there's no yogurt to counteract it either. just pathetic
and now I feel like garbage. I feel sick to my stomach. because that BBQ sauce was a lot more sugar than you could taste.
I fucking hate my life. I hope I don't get sick from the food, cuz I have food insensitivities... and I knew before when I took spoonfuls of what he ordered they didn't effect me... but that wasn't this.
this fucker literally lied and used me to order food guilt-free under the pretense of "hey it's your birthday and I wanna get you a meal". and he orders disgusting fast food that isn't even food. "for me". while lying to me. me who can't even eat the damned cherries I love without my brain degrading because those are too much sugar. what the hell is wrong with this guy
I know I got downvoted for this before but fuck I hate fat people. I don't want to eat fast food. I want real food. I don't want to get sick off fake fucking BBQ sauce infused with disgusting sugar. all this guy does is make excuses for the food he wants to eat. maybe I'm just literally food insensitive watching him eat himself to death I don't know. I feel like puking
I swear nothing good anyone ever does for you is ever for you. people are rotten.31 -
Been looking into some of my old code (an OBSE plugin). Wanted to know how something worked I made over 10 years ago. I look through the code and some of it makes sense, some of it looks really messy compared to what I write now. I want to remake some of this code to work on a different game now.
I have some code for threading that I have no idea where it came from:
https://github.com/Demolishun/...
It allows transferring data between different threads using mutexes. It is really really simple. I searched github to see if it came from there. There is stuff with similar names, but the code is way way different in those. I honestly don't see whey this code needs to be any more complicated than it is. I wonder if it is because I don't know something or I just like simpler solutions. Maybe there are use cases the other coding solutions have that solve particular problems?
Anyway, I plan to pound out an SKSE version of this plugin. I have been wanting to make this for some time now. I don't necessarily have a need other than the fun factor. My lack of providing good directions for use on the OBSE version kept people from using it. I will try and do better on this version.2 -
Been thinking about game design for a while now. I have been thinking about how the game can affect the player emotionally. I pay attention to off comments people make in game forums. I didn't fully realize the impact of some NPCs until someone pointed it out.
For instance, in Skryim a character would say something like "Your parents should be very proud of you. I am too." People have expressed how profoundly this impacted them. So I put this in my notes of "things to include" in any given game. I also saw a meme where there are people where their only positive interaction with the world could be a video game. I don't know what kind of dark existence that would be so it makes it hard for me to relate. Which is probably why I didn't understand the impact of such a statement. I realized that regardless of the medium, you will have an impact on someone.
I have also been thinking about how people get older they become more of a casual player. But as a casual myself I want to a more detailed system of interaction with the game. Despite the shitty graphics (all text map), the "Mines of Moria" is one of my all time favorite games. It is based upon the Rogue I think. I remember being able to do almost anything that made logical sense with anything. For instance, you could dip arrows in any potion. The affect was not always significant, but you could to that. I want to recreate that in my games. I am going to start with shitty graphics and build a system of interaction that is more detailed than any RPG I have played. Maybe a lot of players will gloss over this, but for those that want that it will be there. I think the biggest issue is often the types of exploits this would allow. So I guess I will have to get good at simulating the player interactions to test things out. I am always a bit frustrated with games that have mages, but all their spells are wrote. I feel like skill trees for all types of play should be expansive and exclusionary. That way a new play through doesn't end up with the same god character every time.
I have been watching One Piece. I now want piracy and ships in my game. Including ship battles with a working crew. It seems like this could make an RPG a lot of fun. Who doesn't want mages casting fireballs at opposing ships?9 -
