This week I'm doing construction work -- renovating my balcony. Just now I've finished with HTML - hanging drywall ceiling. Tomorrow will start on CSS - putty.
Damn, it's so gooood no not think about computers!6 -
so on my new lappy I'm testing XFS. After reading how bloody fast it is, I figured: why not give it a shot!
2 weeks later, I want to go back to ext4. XFS is SSSSOOOOOO fault-intollerant, it breaks my Chrome profile after each forced-poweroff (or power loss). And the on-boot fsck freezes. And after a successful bootup I see the log messages in syslog are all messed up (timestamps are all over the timeline!!!)
it's a mess... A very fast mess.17 -
Hey lads and gals!
A genuine question to people who live in "heaven-on-earth" countries (Greece islands, Italy, Spain seaside, Portugal, etc.). Where do YOU travel to to chill, change scenery and relax?
I mean, for us, wildlings of the North, going South on vacation is a no-brainer. Like now, I'm getting my sanity back while sipping Rakia (IDK why not ouzo though..) in Crete. But where do Cret(ians?) and other Southerners go on vacation?5 -
I wonder how many bitflips did they trigger last night...
Looks pretty. But much too scarry when you understand what it is.3 -
this project is so ridiculous at times that IDK whether to laugh or to cry :D :D
Frankly, I don't even know how to compose a rant about it.... :D1 -
YESSS!!!! IT'S GREEN!!! FINALLYYYY!!!!!!!!
3 weeks ago I started building this CI pipeline. Finally, I see something GREEN!! YAYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!
P.S. A complete build requires 23GB of disk space, lasts 1h40m, and artifacts are too big to be cached, so everything must be shoved into a single CI job.
You've gotta love building monoliths...11 -
Oohhh, dropbox... You are pathetic.
I'm a long time dbx user. 10+ years ago they had a programme saying that each new dbx user created using my ref link [on different machines] grants me 500M or 1G of additional space in my acct. Around that time I used to actively fix/reinstall/setup others' computers, so I had an easy access to different machines. This way I boosted my dbx capacity to 27G. For free.
Since ~5 years ago dbx started spamming me with "you're almost out of storage" emails [I'm using ~80% of my 27G]. Annoying, but I understand - they have to keep with the sales. I can live with this occasional spam.
Now, since I got my new laptop, I'm setting up dbx on it. And dbx is SO desperate with their sales, that now they only allow sync on 3 devices max. I had to unlink other 17 devices I've ever logged in from before I could continue.
What's the next step of despair? Free accounts can only sync on weekends?
Come on. This looks ridiculous. Dropbox, get your shit together!13 -
My work lappy just now invoked an OOMKiller.

`swapon -a` it is then... :(12 -
Out of 24 hours in the day it takes 10 seconds to accept a delivery. How come the delivery person knocks on the door precisely at the same moment I sit down on a pooper..? I mean, it must be a law of nature or smth. It can't be a coincidence...1

It's always fun to learn from your COLLEAGUES that you're about to leave the project and should hand off your responsibilities to them.
And when you ask your manager WTF?? you're replied with "calm down, nothing's decided yet, we're only talking at this point"2 -
Got an error trying to [Leave] a meeting in Teams
*sigh....*
Just Teams being Teams...
Now I'm probably stuck in that meeting somewhere deep in MS's servers forever.4 -
Spent 3 days in a santorium. With my fam.
Didn't rest a bit [with temporary exceptions of evenenings where I did get to relax in a steam bath [50C, 99%] followed by ice cold water bucket].
Not looking forward for the monday. At all.2 -
restoring a 2TB DEV DB running in k8s on SPOT instances is like trying to aim at a moving target. With a slingshot.8

The internet says "containers are the holy grail, it's cross-platform and you can run your images and get the same result everywhere"
The practice says: nope... it doesn't do thatrant containers architecture os myth cross-platform theory ordering practise filesystem devops platforms8 -
Daaamn.. Dagger.io is actually quite cool. Spent 2 days learning and building a dagger module for my project's ci and I've gotta tell ya - I'm lovin' it!

How to cheer up a colleague? Ask him/her to lick on a link.
Almost sent a thank-you email to ITSD confirming that my access now works, all I needed was to lick the link they sent me.2 -
if anyone needs a link for ubuntu....

I'M GONNA KILL THIS MAC
what the FUCK!!!???!!!??? IT WORKED YESTERDAY!!!!
Now the whole iOS build pipeline fails again complaining smth about distribution profiles. Then about certificates. And then it starts using a completely unrelated certificate and complaining that provisioning profile does not include it...
what the f...
IT FUCKING WORKED YESTERDAY!!!!!!26 -
WHAT THE FUCK!!!
Whoever says that MacOS is superior or at least on par with Linux in terms of ease of maintenance -- feel free to stick a backwards pinecone up your asshole and push it down with a baseball bat with 5" nails.
The FUCK is this nightmare. You can't even start a process w/o logging in via GUI, password changes are another horror story, esp. for users who have never logged in [warning says to change keystore pass separately... Which doesn't exist...], vnc uses some proprietary protocol, ...
Seriously, even SunOS is easier to maintain, not to mention AIX, compared to this BSD nightmare of a UNIXoid....
Wtf....3 -
TIL: Outlook now supports reactions to mails in the form of icons. Think: like/smile/cry/heart/etc.
Just like reactions to messages in any given chat application.
Don't get me wrong, I like and welcome this feature. It's just surprising to see this in... mail.12 -
It's really fun to not have access to the CI backend and keep only troubleshooting build crashes through a CI that takes 15min to run until it crashes :)))
1 diagnostic command == 1 pipeline run
1 typo == another run :)
it's been 2 sprints now. Still no luck2 -
I mean, can even the folks at MS make sense of Teams..?
"Open Teams, select the Client's Teams and in the standup Team write a shoutout for the team"
damn it!2 -
Every time I see this my heart starts beating like crazy, I'm filled with joy and hope and I feel like living my life right. Like in the Christmas morning.
Usually, this feeling lasts until I click on the notification. After clicking on it all these feelings are usually replaced with despair, frustration and sometimes even anger.7 -
They say that runing the same command over and over again is a sign of insanity.
LIKE HELL IT IS!!!
I've been running `terraform apply` for the last hour (trying to dump an EKS token in plain-text, because my k8s-related providers failed to auth to the cluster), and miraculously the problem went away. Now the error is no more.
Insanity?
I beg to differ!

I really really really need more RAM. 16GB is far from enough. Had to witness the kernel kill all of my Chrome extensions and most of my tabs and an IDE and still it wasn't able to run that container in the 8G RAM it just freed up...
I remember the days when 8G RAM was an overkill.
The times have changed. Now I'm looking into getting a Linux lappy w/ 96GB and still worried whether it'll suffice my needs....11
