    If that object has some exceptionally properties or if it's unique in that area somehow, use that. If it's not you need a camera and a recognizing part. Won't happen on one IC.

    Try to use image detection. This is a complex task heavily dependant on the class of objects you want to detect and the environment. For software try OpenCV.
