This is what being a security enthusiast does to you.

A little background : This is our team's designer who asked me to send him one of my pictures to put on my ID Card (that he is designing) for the event that I'm organizing along with my team. I have known him for about 2 years now but well, security awareness gave me trust issues because I apparently asked him to delete the picture he is finally using for my ID Card after he is done with the work. He must be thinking I'm crazy.

P.s. I still don't know if he actually deleted it or not but let's just give him the benefit of doubt and try to live in oblivion.

If he is your friend. It won't be harmful.
And, it's ok to share pics I guess.

He's not my friend and we only talk when absolutely needed. Only regarding work. I don't share personal pictures even with friends willingly. @github

Any sort of personal data can be misused/ used without permission without your knowledge. Now I'm not really comfortable with someone I don't really trust keeping an unnecessary piece of data related to me even if it's just in a mailbox. Who knows when an account gets compromised? @1989

The issue is not about sending or not sending. The issue is pertaining to it even after its of no use to the other person which makes me uncomfortable. Which is why I asked him to delete it from his end after he is done with the necessary work. @1989

What I don't get is using the reply feature when replying to the last message in a private conversation.

This is just paranoia really. Maybe i am just a lazy hack, but it takes far more time to fuck with you by using your picture than anything else.

    @SheShell
Y are u worried, u sent a pic to ur friend whom u know abt 2 years!

There are ppl posting personal photos in Snapchat, facebook, etc..

Those are indexed in Google image search.

It's better to be safe than to be sorry later 😌 @AleCx04

He's not my friend. Just an acquaintance and more of "just another team member".
Also, I hate snapchat!! Really? I don't think pictures shared on snapchat are indexed though, are they? I know about facebook and other such websites do allow Google indexing but not snapchat I think. @Nawap

@AleCx04 @SheShell (@Root) This has nothing to do with paranoia. It's about controlling (to the most possible extent) what information/data of a certain individual is under their control.

I wouldn't be comfy with her situation either.

Also I'm wondering what you'd find paranoid in general? I block Google on my laptop because it's integrated with prism. Meaning that when I do anything with google, my data will be sucked up in a mass surveillance network. 'thats paranoid, they won't be able to do anything with that data anyways' - prove it to me.

@linuxxx oh no. I agree with you. But if I wanted to absolutely not be a number in anything, or my data being used in anything I might as well not use the internet at all. I know there are preventive meassures, but they are never enough.

I am not trying to convince you otherwise because I am with you on it.

    Exactly my point! @linuxxx

@AleCx04 It's not about if they're enough or not, you'll always have data exposed somehow. But it's up to you as for the amount of control you have over that :)

I don't really have a choice. I would if I could have. A lot of stuff gets done through whatsapp here because a majority of the people aren't aware of Slack/Discord/any other better privacy oriented texting app. One of them being: my professors at college use whatsapp to convey important notices through whatsapp (urgent stuff that is not email worthy according to them). 😥 @Floydian

Don't really want to miss an important impromptu exam/submission only because I decided to stop using WhatsApp.
