I think it often has to do with how people are raised, and what kind of culture they grow up in. Idk where you are from. But with me, even in you stores you can see what kind of image society has about girls - violently pink, playing house kind of stuff, makeup, fashion, etc. And in the boys section? A lot of technology-based stuff, building things, etc. That's the general picture that a lot of kids grow up in. And if there is no counter-measures from the parents or the educational sector, and as long as being technical is considered a male thing, there will be few women / girls being interested.
