I got a call from the recruiter today and she asked me for my current salary. When I told her, she replied "Based on your experience and skill set, that's too low".

"That's why I am looking for a job"

I cried internally 😥

Happens all the time, sometimes it’s because it’s real, and sometimes it’s because they get the fat commission :p

Hope you find something that pays what you’re worth though!

I'm a freelancer and i'm always treated like i'm paid too much when i'm underpaid and do a lot better than competition...
I don't think i'll ever get that response if not ironically

My last job paid like 24k lol 😭
It was marginally better than burger flipping.

Just tell them you earn a fortune (at least as much as you would like to earn). Then they and potential employers have the right expectations when they invite you for an interview.

At least that was what I did last year. I wasn't exactly looking for a job but decided to evaluate my value. I pretended to earn about 10k more than I really was. Guess what. Know I'm working at a new company with 12k more than before.

And that was only one year after my apprenticeship.

@chris115379 I am very bad at lying so, won't work for me. Plus here we have to submit proofs after about our previous pay details. So they will find out that you cheated.
I am asking the amount what I deserve. It's nearly double my current pay. When I see recruiters are not surprised, I knew that their expectations are way higher than mine.

My current company is really great and gives a lot of learning opportunities, but they suck at paying and they also suck at resolving disputes.

If it makes you feel better, recruiters always say stuff like that to anyone.

Their line of work based on herding ppl towards job dis-satisfaction.

@cyanly Oh, but she was right. I get paid peanuts. I have years of experience and is really good at what I do.
I chose this job because my startup failed and I was in hurry to get some work because I can't sit idle doing nothing.
I love my team though and they love me back. I am at client location for couple of months in another city and today they Vudeo called me and told me that they miss me (mostly because I have pending work there).
It's going to be hard to leave them.
