If you have been a software developer for more than 10 years and still like your job you are either not really a software engineer or have mental health issues.

I mean, I'm not a software dev, but I do have mental health issue, does that count lol

@ScribeOfGoD that's part of being a human being, unfortunately.

I just think that whoever likes to be a software engineer should look for help, it's never too late

If you think this you are no true dev.

Developing sw ~30 years now. 18 years for a living. It's still fun and i don't want to do anything else. And i have no health issues but my back.

    I'm a sociopath.
    Does that count?

@AwwYiss I haven't said it's the worst job on earth, it's not by a long shot. It's just that if you like it, you're out of your mind. The same applies to working in call center, I'm pretty sure.

Btw anyone who uses the construct "true dev" in a sentence should probably ask themselves a question or two. It's a job. There's no "true job". The only reason we have jobs is to make money and spend money and buy stuff we don't need and so on, same old same old.

Create art, music, write, take photographs, travel the world, do whatever the hell you like but please don't tell me that being forced to work as a modern slave in front of a computer is something good.

Software engineering today is a commodity, it has nothing to do with computer science, it's just producing tons of crap to make someone happy while at the same time being accountable for it.

Researchers and students are in a different league, this is mostly valid for the private sector (and true for most jobs, not just I.T.)

Thats the point. It's not just a job, it's pure joy for me to program and develop. I can pay my rent with the money i get for it? Great!
..you know, i code for fun in my holidays. And i share it for free!
..and i teach it @ community college.
I'm sorry for you how you see the world.
It's not all about the money!

@AwwYiss discuss that with my wife. ;)

..and if you read my post again you will realize that i program for free too. Aaand if it where all about the money i would work for a bank or insurance company and would get 3k more per month.
