Can anyone suggest me a desktop environment for my Ubuntu. I am currently working with kubuntu and I feel very much laggy with the interface. I have previously used gnome which I think was faster.

Totally lost on environment. Need one immediately.

I have a core i7 with 8 gigs RAM

++ for XFCE. Other nice desktops are Cinnamon and LXDE, but I always seem to gravitate towards XFCE for the already given reasons: simple as fuck, lightweight as fuck, customizable as fuck.

Lay it out to your liking, pair it with a nice GTK and window manager themes and you've got a winner.

i3 of course. :P
