IMO I think that they use those nonsense IPs for a reason. If they did use real ip and someone noticed (even worse if that someone tried to do some damage to that server - there even port scan counts), owner of that server could potentially sue them for "using his property without permission" or something along those lines.
Using nonsense IP is therefore protecting them selves. Am I wrong?

This is where RFC 5737 should come in.

@leitljaroslav Yeah that makes sense. But like @whateveryoumean said, that's where IETF's RFC5737 would be useful. Of course, most people watching those TV shows or movies wouldn't care about the accuracy of something that's on the screen for less than 5 seconds.
