So I'm going to have to give an estimate for how long this new project is going to take. It's about time I learn how to properly estimate projects. Or does the learning only happen with more experience? 🤔

    How to estimate a project:

    1. Estimate how long it would take you to get 95% of the functionality in there if you were left to do it by yourself.

    2. Multiply by ten.

    @joycestick Something like this.

    Another I've heard:

    Estimate as if every day is going to be an unproductive day. (If the total makes you feel guilty, that's good.) Then multiply the sum by Pi. This adds room for crappy days, scope expansion, slow management, and fuckups.

    Make your best effort. Add another 50% because no matter how many times management says "we know estimates are going to be wrong", they will still hold you accountable. Oh, and add another 20% for each developer > yourself.
