Ellis16136yGood to have you back. Not at the best of times right now, but still good.
You up to date with the latest crap? -
Ellis16136y@pertroo Cool, Linus is taking a "break" to understand emotions better, Linux contributers are leaving because of changes (politicising) to their codes of conduct, Linus' daughter signed a document demanding the abolition of meritocracy (https://postmeritocracy.org), Guido Van Rossum allowed a change in python terminology from "master/slave" to "parent/child" because it might hurt people's feelings, and finally (to top it all off), a week ago today, the EU passed two laws (article 11 & 13) which respectively (11) allows URL owners to charge for their use, and (13) applies (essentially) the youtube copyright filter to EVERYTHING ON THE INTERNET.
That's all off the top of my head, not been a good fortnight so far. -
pertroo6686y@Ellis I've definitely read about Linus' emphatic experiment but oh man, the rest is not looking so well
-
Ellis16136y@pertroo Yeah, that's the main stuff. Devrant's been full of hot takes on all these for a few days now.
Main hot takes are: Linus should stay an asshole because that encourages code quality,
The post-meritocracy doc is bullshit, especially the 'nontechnical contributions are of equal value to technical ones' part,
Open Source is being invaded by sjw's,
and Guido and the python team are being dumb.
Those are the main repeating ones, but I'm sure there's more. To sweeten the sour taste I bet you have right now, have a cute snake pic.
Whoa my last rant was last year. I missed devRant :")
