Symbolic links can do that

"Sparse" files, too, such as where a file only has ~1kb of data but its metadata says the filesize is e.g. 10mb.

These allow you to store files with large chunks of zeros in less space.

Edit: these actually have the opposite effect of what's displayed: their size is larger than their size-on-disk.

Windows explorer does not understand symbolic links and counts them too.
