My college forces you to take chemistry, physics, mechanics, philosophy, and Environmental science before you even take your first coding course. WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY......... I didn't apply for this XD

Holistic and well-rounded education, boi. There's a lot more to life than coding and CS.

There are pure tech programmes too, these are specialized things that are just programming and related stuff, and are generally shorter too.

Though I will agree that the way the other courses are implemented for, say, a primarily software engineering course can sometimes be rather seedy and should be improved.

    No math? Too sad.

They should also teach you about finance skills, marketing, ethics and communication skills, public speaking. Otherwise you will be a screwdriver in a Swiss knife shol

Basic programming should be a prerequisite for any and all of these! It teaches problem-solving, logic, syntax, etc. These are much more applicable in other areas than vice versa.

If they force you to take more classes, you have to pay for more classes.

Also, accreditation regulations prevent you from getting credit for just taking classes you want.
