So that's the whole point of the touch bar. Help people get out of vim.

    It should say :q!

    🤗

Those who really use vim would never bother to move their hands so much to touch that damn thing. :q! FTW

@dUcKtYpEd Reassign caps lock to escape. Plenty of vim users have that set.
  • 4
@phreakyphoenix @dUcKtYpEd ctrl + c does the same, no need to reassign escape
  • 6
@dUcKtYpEd Insertion Mode for the fuck sake

    Rrr... Shift + Z, Shift +Z

    Anyone?

@ScriptCoded that would be a much better use of the Touch Bar, a help bar! Show the most common commands on it.

@gajahterbang that might not be the same as quit vim.
    Question is :wq! or q!
    So ZZ or ZQ

    @b4dev Agree to Disagree

@b4dev people get shot for such blasphemy you know 😂

I sometimes wonder why the vim default theme is such shit though.
I understand vi has to be small, but vim or neovim could have better colors. Of course we can theme it, but still.

    How? Teach me master.
  • 1
Such an Apple thing to do 😅
  • 1
@ScriptCoded I see that you never use vi seriously. For me it's :wq!
  • 2
@phoxis Haha, if you know how to type in vim, you don't need a button to exit ;)

@ScriptCoded I even know people who sent SIGTERM or even SIGKILL to vi, through a UI.

    Superb

@not-sure CTRL-[ is even better because it's supported on all Vim emulations and platforms. I'd prefer CTRL-C but I read it's not supported everywhere so I trained myself with [.

OK, *pats @b4dev on the head*
  • 0
@Chewy8 if it was fully up to Apple, they'd ship their own Vim, without :q and you'd need to codesign and disable SIP to build/install regular Vim.

I will get an external keyboard for this solution lol

@Hastouki that requires two hands though
  • 1
@Hastouki and the location of [ varies a lot from country to country. I personally always use the UK layout, but as I live in Denmark, I often use other’s computers, or accessing servers physically where the keyboard configuration is Danish.

Honestly I’ve never experienced a version of vim where ctrl + c don’t work, so I’d rather train my hand to make the same shortcut whether my keyboard layout is DK or UK, or anything else

@not-sure Maybe I should reconsider my choice. I find the C much more comfortable.

@Hastouki The two hand thing isn't really an issue since both my hands stay locked on the keyboard. It's more having to use my ring finger on the [ that I don't find the most comfortable, though I'm mostly used to it.
