I remember the promise I made to myself when I dropped out of university to look for work.

"I'll explore different areas of software engineering since I like a number of them. But never shall I ever do backend web development"

Guess what job I landed.

Sort of the way it goes. If you are serious about not staying in web dev, my suggestion is keep looking for a systems job, the longer you stay in a specialty the harder it is to get out.

It could be a lot worse.
You could be front end :P .

Still I'd guess that most people doing backend web development told themselves taht they wouldn't, or that they'd only do it to get started.

They longer you stay, the harder it will be to leave.
