I was working in my windows VM in class, just typing some C# code, when suddenly... "Updates are being installed".

Without notice, it just shut down while I was typing stuff. How??

    @Jilano Yes, but Microsoft usually checks user activity before forcing an update.

    Joys of shared VM depends on your environment.

    Updates to host (ESXi) machine
    Updates to host (Windows Server) OS
    Server failover (cluster)

    These do not care what you are doing.

    @bkwilliams I think it was a local vm though

    @Jifuna then it was either working hours or the “ask me” checkbox wasn’t set correctly.

    @Jifuna that is correct. I use the virtualbox image Microsoft offers for developers.
