Idky, but I really want to build an AMD ryzen pc recently. Am I crazy?

@FrodoSwaggins never use amd before. Heard rumours that amd generates too much heat, so they can cook bananas. That’s why they have to include larger stock fan πŸ€”is it true?

If you're using Linux, no you're not.

And just in general AMD are just the best bang for your buck hands down at the moment, my next build is going AMD and Vega, ditching Intel and NVIDIA all together

@lxmcf really need nvidia for cuda, but amd ‘s 8 core is so appealing 🀩

@FrodoSwaggins I watched some comparison videos on YouTube. It seems everyone go for the 2700x. But power consumption and heat do matter to me (there is summer now) I wonder if the 2700 stock fan good enough? πŸ€”

I have a ryzen 1700 paired with a GTX 1070 and I am really satisfied.

I will build a new work build, and it will be a 2700x, especially after those cooked principled technologies benchmarks.

Edit: using stock cooler, and it often hits 34+ degrees where I live, no problems whatsoever.

@sunfishcc just built a Ryzen 2400G system, running flawlessly at heavy load. No issues too, if you're going Linux I suggest a rolling release distro because AMD is doing good work with drivers.

If I had the money I would've gone for a 2700X, but...no money and I didn't feel it's the right time for a new graphics card, so 2400G it is.

I know several people running 2700X here (in India, gets fairly hot) on the stock cooler so it shouldn't be an issue.

Chips contain more physical cores consume more energies and generate more heat...choose amd or Intel wisely base on how your applications scale in parallel

@RememberMe got a bundle of b450 + 2700 for Black Friday deal. 😸 how good is the AMD factory thermal compound? Any benefits of getting a syringe from cooler master?

@sunfishcc Dunno. I haven't run into any issue with heat throttling. I'm using the default compound (and cooler).

@thighbaugh just bought parts for b450 and 2700, except graphic card. Tricky question again, nvida gtx 10sereis is 2 years old and rtx 2070 is too expensive. I’m waiting for the full lineup for 20 series πŸ€”

i'm currently waiting for Zen2 release so I may trash my I7 3770k

    @Hallelouia

Don't trash it, Intel 2nd and 3rd gen chips still perform decent, my i7 2600K still works like a charm.

@Gaveuxifort i will probably recycle it into a computer for my parents and sister TBH

@Hallelouia my mum already eyes on my intel nuc πŸ™€

Just built two Ryzen systems one 1300X and a 2600X. They are both excellent machines and the stock wraith coolers are very capable.

@mrgadget I’m that kind never shut down computer guy. Iil bit nervous about overclocked CPU

I don’t overclock mine. Able to game at decent frames too.
