If an engineer is getting minimum wage, there's something very wrong with the company.

@kamen not if there are a lot of engineers looking for jobs. Then the company can afford to fire people asking for more money, because it can always find people who are willing to work for lower, because desperation.

Does this mean industry minimum? I'm fairly sure there is nowhere in the world that has such an excess of developers that they're earning minimum wage for any significant period of time, the place would become an offshore development hotspot and proceyss would rise! It developers would leave the area, either way, the imbalance would be corrected.

@brano88 if an engineer is that bad, you're probably better off without them at all ;-)

@ThomasRedstone you haven't heard of India have you? Not sure about the minimum wages, but there sure are excess developers

@hacker101 I've actually been there, and graduates earn 3x the national average where I was, so clearly not an excess of developers yet ;-)

@hacker101 can't speak for India but I did some work in Bangladesh giving training to developers. There are quite a lot out there but the standard is very low. There's so much they're not taught at university and they're not learning much at work because companies out there are happy to just sell bad products. Plus, most of them are trying to be freelancers working on platforms like fiverr and peopleperhour, which is the worst kind of freelancing.

@tmpnull it is pretty much the same scene in India too. Colleges are still stuck in 1990s. Students mostly take up computer science because the Industry is growing here. Most of them have no liking towards it. There are obviously exceptions but the general majority is this.
