IMO, music plays a vital role in writing software for me. Without it I can’t get into the “zone”... or as I call it the “grove”, because I don’t really zone out.

I have different genres, songs, and playlists for different situations and languages.

I also, begin to type to the beat of the song.

I have been known to put a song on repeat for hours to lose track of time.

Have a standup desk has really helped with concentration, as once I’m in the grove, I will start moving around to the beat as I work.... It seems like a distraction but it helps.. maybe I’m just ADD.. lol 😂

Anyone else do the same of some sort? What gets you in the grove?

I actually like "Music to Code By" by Carl Franklin for that purpose. But it sure isn't everyone's jam and probably won't get you dancing in the office. 😅

I can't work without some sort of noise, even if it's just a TED Talk.

Rawstyle and Hardcore (Angerfist) works the best for me.

@PrivateGER uggghhhh idk how anyone can program to hardcore, death metal and all that, screaming and grunting ... lmfao... id punch a hole thru my Monitor... or throw the keyboard across the room.

Classic rock, old country, movie theme songs... classical music..

Stuff with a harmony and slow to upbeat tempo.

If I’m in some serious shit and can’t think straight I’ll bust out the 432Hz “brain power playlist” with a bunch of remixes.

@QuanticoCEO Hardcore is pure electronic. Look up Radical Redemption or Rejecta to get the idea. I can't work if my music involves someone singing.

@PrivateGER i can agree someone singing can be a distraction.. this why I sing along lol or mouth along.. its easy for me to focus thru harmony than thru quick, crazy changes in tempo, or pitch, etc in stuff like dubstep or atleast the stuff that sounds like to robots having sex lol ... I have not ventured past short previews of most of those songs i consider in that genre.. I really need to give it an honest try .. but the issue I have a rule.. if the first 15-25secs don’t establish the tune or beat.. or I don’t like it in that time I won’t like it.. just something I noticed... and dubstep is no comparison to the stuff you guys are talking about.. lol I know

Lol I guess I’m old school haha
