I've vented to a few friends about the bad interviews I've had. They've been bad mostly because I'm not amazing at Leetcode style questions and the pressure of an interview. I saw some of these friends last night and they all said the same thing:

"You have to have the 'f*** you, if you're going to ask me these type of questions I don't want to work for you anyways' mentality."

I haven't even thought of it that way, but I think that's because in the Bay Area that's just the name of the game. Every random company and their mom is asking you these brain twisters, and to cut out all companies that do it would mean cutting out like 95% of the market.

I have been pretty lucky that the last few companies I have worked at have been very chill / light on the Leetcode style questions, but I don't think I'll get that lucky again.

Anyways, I wish I could just not care about a bad interview and just do the whole "yeah f you guys" mentality, but that's just not who I am. I wish I could turn that on, but I know I do care about some of these companies and want it to work out.

Fuck you mentality is many times not helping in general. I don't get such questions but you can train leetcode if it's important right? I just hope to be judged on experience and test project.

    Game theory in action

If everyone had the "fuck you" mentality. Companies would be forced to update their hiring proceses, otherwise they would have no workers.

But since you can't be sure that everyone will adopt that mentality (e.g. a snitch). You are risking by adopting it, even though you'd all be objectively better by not working at these companies, you can't risk not having a job due to snitches.

Game Theory tells you what is objectively the best option for everyone, but it also tells you why It's the worst choice for you.

Long story short, you should adapt the fuck you mentality only if you can afford not having a job (e.g. if you already have some sort or income)

Otherwise the best option is to play the game as is, unfortunately.

Just write back to the CEO and say you are available to suck dick anytime.

@whimsical I like to think of myself as somewhat of an educator. Give a man a correct answer, and you helped him with one problem, but teach a man how to get their own answers and you have to answer less questions, or something... :D

Ofc in practice rarely anyone cares, but oh well.
