This is driving me nuts. Anyone know of this malware or whatever shit it is? Every now and then ads pop up. Usually in the launcher, but sometimes also in other apps. It'd be nice to get rid of... Usually when I look in the activity manager theres nothing, but this time I managed to capture it.

    @irene Tried, couldn't find anything...

    @hypervtechnics I'll definitely try that. Thanks :)

    A damn rogue app serving you ads. Wouldn't be surprised if it even served you one over the lockscreen. Are you using any Cheetha Mobile shit?

    @tacticalKimchi No I don't. Not AFAIK. No lockscreen shit yet though :) (btw, welcome to the 1k club)

    Some phone manufacturers build these right into the stock software...

    Is your device rooted? Or it was by any chances?

    It happend to me the exactly same a while ago
    Had an lg l70

    And i had it rooted
    * I unrooted it having the hope that it will help me
    * no luck
    * went to warranty
    * they rejected me because the device was rooted
    * but somehow because they check with their software, the device was clean of any kind of virus

    TIP

    What i did to stop the virus!!
    * i noticed that it happends when i'm connected to the internet
    * so i got a firewall app wich lets be block specifc apps , and when i received the message , i checked wich app does it and blocked the process
    * if i remember it was a chrome process
    * the virus uses the browser

    My mom had a similar issue. What @irene said - it is likely a browser addon.

    In my Mom’s case something installed to her chrome app, needed to remove it from chrome then poof 💨
    No more ads

    @hitko It's a OnePlus, so I doubt it.

    @Clear0Ff No root, only early builds. If I can't find it using @hypervtechnics suggestion I'll try using a firewall.

    @irene @TerraNimbus-io Chrome on Android supports add-ons?

    @ScriptCoded maybe addon isn’t the right thing to call it for the mobile app. IIRC it’s a permissions issue with a malicious ad’s site. I say malicious because fuck annoying ass ads. I believe there’s certain sites that are phishing by asking for your consent to allow notifications on you browser. If you allow them, they act like push notifs at random but instead of a little drop down from the top, you get a whopping full screen pop up ad.

    @ScriptCoded I’m going to boot up my android and see if I can find the setting that I found for my mom. We basically just needed to remove the perms foe it to be allowed to send notifs

    @ScriptCoded I can’t find my pixel anywhere, I think the setting you’ll want to disable is the “ad’s” or “notifications” settings.

    Here’s an article I found that should help find were the setting is buried: https://support.google.com/chrome/...

    @TerraNimbus-io Hey buddy, thanks :) I uninstalled a bunch of stuff this morning actually. I'll read up on that link and tell you if I found anything. Thank you!

    @TerraNimbus-io Okay, didn't manage to find the specific site. Indeed there is an "Ads" permission, though I can only disable it for all sites, and even then I'm not sure it will block it for sites that are already allowed. I'll see if the ads keep popping up now that I've installed a few apps. If not I'll perhaps try and disable it for all sites. Thanks again :)
