VirtualBox is fucking evil
It wants the humanity to disappear due to self doubt, random errors and depression

    There is this great virtual machine program called Vmware. You should check it out.

    Proxmox is love
    Proxmox is life
    (Is a bit above your usual workhorse VirtualBox tho)

    <3 for qemu/libvirtd.

    @bahua the only correct answer :D

    I feel you.

    I had to set up a Windows 2012 R2 server VM (64 bit) and it kept crashing on install. The solution was a command to enable the CPU instruction CMPXCHG16B.

    Some arcane knowledge, I don't even remember where I found it. Still, for some reason I keep using it. Living dangerously, I suppose?

    @HampusMa they just want to take your money

    @bahua not when you want to test clusters

    @Kimmax will check out

    @bladedemon maybe because it's easy once you learn it and start controlling from terminal

    But oh the pain in the ass when you have to use their bulky gui which randomly locks machines sometimes when closing them

    @gitlog To be the devil's advocate, virtualization is not an easy task (technically). Also, using VirtualBox from terminal can cause carpal tunnel syndrome from all the typing and scripts that you have to set up, and god help you if you mess even a letter on those.

    Regarding GUI, I don't know much. I can't program a GUI to save my life. Still, it does sound irritating.

    Deep breaths (preferably while smoking for maximum effect), coffee (with some moderation) can help. Remember Murphy's philosophy:

    Smile. Tomorrow will be worse.

    @gitlog

    What does the hypervisor have to do with clustering? All you need for clustering is orchestration, and all you need for orchestration is an API(and sometimes not even that). And qemu/libvirtd definitely has an API. Vbox is clunky and hamfisted by comparison.
