You know how on Tumblr there are blogs entirely devoted to artificially inflating each other's follower count? You join them, follow everyone on their list, and if you're lucky they'll place you on their list and tell them to follow you, too. If it all works out, it makes you look much more popular, despite nobody actually caring about your blog.
