I'm hoping to eventually set up my own server where I can store files/passwords. Does anyone have experience with Sandstorm.io, Nextcloud, or ownCloud? Are there any other alternatives you would recommend?

    Nextcloud is nice.
ownCloud tries to hide features for business users and thus, is not fully open-source, whereas Nextcloud is.

Nextcloud also offers a password manager "addon" (they call addons "apps") and they allow you to encrypt stuff.

I have nextcloud, it's a hard earned experience for a developer that never did serious SysAdm installations and configuration without an owned domain name like cloud.mydomain.me
