How far do you think are level 5 autonomous vehicles in the future?

I think you must give a little bit context here, because I guess not everybody knows what level 5 means... at least I don't

@2erXre5 level 5 means full autonomy of the vehicle, without the user paying attention on the road or even a need for a steering wheel.

OK, from technical point of view, we are not that far away. But ethics and laws will have to cope with that as well. And that's why I think we are far far away from that point.

@2erXre5 Yeah, with the big question being: Who's going to pay when there'll be an accident.

What's really needed is having the cars communicate or be a part of some network that regulates traffic to make it faster, more efficient and safe.

I'd call that level 6, and it's quite far away.

It will take some time to replace enough cars to achieve that, and the infrastructure between different parties will be a problem to solve.

@Quirinus don't you think collecting that kind of data would be an attack on privacy?

@d1401 If you consider collecting anonymous data on the internet an attack on privacy, then yes. Otherwise, no.

    It's a similar thing.

@Quirinus Problème being it won't be anonymous. It'll be tired to an ID, car model, info, GPS coordinates, speed, timestamps, everything.

@Jilano yeah, but the ID doesnt have to be visibly connected to the owner. You do some encrypted/hashed shit, and the only way to get info on the owner is via a court order, or if the owner requests it. The same as security on the net.

If they want to use the system, they accept anonymous collection/ availability of data - only what is neccessary for the system to function, and only available to automated algorithms/programs, not humans. But revealing who they to other humans requires some kind of permission from a human.
