It's politeness, a common courtesy, to categorise your post properly. Many people don't want to see jokes or memes or randoms or whatever and they filter them out. Imagine how irritating it is when you're a frustrated dev who just wants rants and you see a joke in your feed just because somebody didn't bother *tapping one button* to choose the proper category.

It makes no difference to you and it helps others out so why not do it?
