Voxera113885yAre your server hosted or at home?
Ip ranges used for private subscriptions are often blacklisted by larger email services, you might need to configure postfix to use your isp as smart host
Otherwize, start by checking that your ip is not listed in any blacklist. (Rbl) -
@catholic-emacs You’re running into the age old problem of “Developer uses service that seems simple but is actually ridiculously over complicated.” Sending email seems really simple but in many organizations running email servers is someone’s full time job. If you’re running Postfix that you manually configured to send from a digital ocean droplet there are a bunch of ways major web email providers will block you by default to prevent spam. SPF, DKIM, IP blacklists, Reverse lookup DNS records. AWS SES is not a bad option for prototyping email notifications.
-
@Diactoros @SortOfTested you know what, I'm going to look into Amazon SES, this crap is tiring...
-
@Diactoros Sorry, but after the DNS set up us done, mail servers are not so complicated - if not running Exchange, but this is clearly not the case here.
-
Voxera113885y@sbiewald its not that the email server is complicated, postfix is super easy to get running.
The hard thing is to get others to accept your emails.
If the isp has had a number if customers sending spam you might be in for a 6 month struggle before you can reliably send emails from your rented server :/.
And setting up all the extras to aid your reputation, thats not easy by any standard.
So unless you are planning to run an email service provider business at least funnel all emails through the isp server or go for an existing esp like send grid that are experts.
Just make sure you don’t spam ;)
Or you’l be out of service very quickly. -
@sbiewald You’re right it’s not insanely complicated. But if you’re just starting, don’t have a clear grasp of the process of sending an email, or the DNS system that got hijacked for verification purposes, it can be tricky to get in place the first time.

found out that my secondary gmail account was sending stuff to spam and not forwarding it to my main gmail account :/
-
You can always try to use the gmail api to send things. Thereby avoiding the mail server setup completely
