yo imagine if the most common and best toolchain for, say, Intel PCs was "mid-source": You can have the buildscripts, and a few extra seldom-useful bits, but nothing else.

Welcome to devkitPro: it's too hard to maintain a toolchain package for all the systems you develop on, so we'll maintain a modded copy of pacman you HAVE to use to get the only toolchain for Nintendo consoles for all systems. Oh, and it's not normal pacman, no, it's hardcoded to only be used for their shit.

Even on Windows.

why do they do this to us again?

    Yes, devkitPro is a mess.

    At least the AUR package(s) make it a bit less painful to get setup.

    @kescherRant they banned me from making issues on their GitHub for suggesting an automated package building process or releasing the tarballs the buildscripts want. I'm also not privy on installing a program related to Arch in any way in anything non-Arch. Don't want `dkp-pacman -Syu` to hose my Debian install or Windows install or the like like it does an Arch install.

    @Parzi Wow, that's garbage.

    @kescherRant welcome to devkitPro: a closed-source toolchain for open-source developers.

    i'd also like to point out that it's also busted on Debian-based distros and a bitch to remove when half-configured.

    @Parzi Fuck that.

    @Root if you're developing for a nintendo product it's this or fuck all. I'm thinking of making my own PPA with DEBs built from the source in the AUR.

    @Parzi I probably would, too. Or lock it in a jail.

    @Parzi If it wants to vomit everywhere and burn holes in things, it can do so in its own padded cell. Jail it!

    @Parzi Chroot? VM?
  • 1
    @Parzi put it into a VM ;)

    @Root @kescherRant DEB broke and i can't take 100 hours to get Arch or Hackintosh working in Virtualbox. I could make a Win10 VM but i'd prefer to do compilation on my laptop while on my desktop and that shit ain't happening on there.
