Never seen a dev choke at interview, only fakers pretending to be devs.

    I choke on interview when they say "we have only worked with Angular and will be".

    Not sure how that's true. Even the best devs will sometimes have brain farts and choke on questions they know in am interview setting.

    My point is, I can choke because of interviewer's incompetence too 🙄

    @vintprox That’s a fair point, I’ve just not seen that.

    @AlmondSauce I think it depends what you consider choking. Not knowing something or forgetting something is totally understandable and expected. I was referring more to people pretending they know something and then coming unstuck at the follow up questions.

    @joycestick yeah, it's basically "smh" moment 😛

    That's an egoistic and demeaning post. You are trying to be cool but aren't coming out like one.

    It would be straight hurtful if someone said that in an interview.

    Interviewer : hey, why are you choking? everything alright?
    Person : no sir , i i-
    I - you know they say a dev never chokes , only a faker would choke. You a faker?

    ----
    And there it is , a person who dedicated so much of his time and efforts in his field is down to being characterized as dumb and fake

    I wouldn't agree with as I myself choke sometimes on interviews even though I know the thing they are asking. It's just that my brain decides that "You know what figure this out yourself but I won't help you at all". People having weak social skills suffer a lot from this problem. Myself included.

    @StopWastingTime Wasn’t trying to be cool at all. Just interviewed enough people who claim to have particular development experience but clearly don’t. I’m actually an encouraging interviewer who is often given the more timid candidates because of my ability to get the best out of them, but I guess you’re just going to say that’s me being “egoistic”. How were you trying to come across?

    @joycestick
    classifying someone as faker is just not right. I guess you usually do interviews for experienced profiles, and if a person doesn't know much about a particular skill they mentioned , you feel right saying that he/she is faking that skill.

    The truth is this word does not simply apply for an interview process.
    A person may not have the knowledge/experience in a skill, but it could be very much possible that they added it thinking that they have the ability to work with that particular framework/language/skill if given enough time/resources.

    you have to understand the person's conscience behind it.

    I have friends who know jack shit about Android dev, but they won't hesitate applying for an Android job because they believe they have read enough about Android to be excited about it and given enough time and training, they could work as devs.

    Infact, the more a person's experience grows the more they become fluid towards technology and domains

    You can either accept them and train them or simply reject them if you want someone with Better knowledge.But its not right to say them as fakers. Our industry is itself so general that i believe anyone who knows how to use a computer an likes working on it is capable of doing any technical work. So how is anyone a faker?
