Finally got Proton to run arbitrary programs with some tinkering. Works fairly well for running nigh anything I throw at it, even some random non-game programs. Might do this more often. (Next up: DXVK)

    Proton uses dxvk

What's an example non-game program you got running?

@bahua A few are just faster and error out slightly less when run with Proton, mainly HxD doesn't die as often and 7-Zip is a decent bit faster. I don't think that should be the result, but it is, and i'm not gonna bitch :D

@shakur there's no issue, all I said was "finally got proton working with everything, and it's good"

Can you provide some numbers on how it performs? What about proton vs Wine? I am currently using wine, and am willing to use proton.

@AvyChanna Proton is Wine with Steam libs and DXVK on top. (I get -5% FPS typical, some games I get as high as +15% tho which is *amazing*)

Lutris offers the ability to wrap any game launch with proton, instead of wine, so that's really handy for non-steam games.

@bahua i just have a script that does it, `protonify <exe>`, works well lmao
