Fuck Governments and schools for not teaching kids basic financial knowledge or how to identify scams and how to determine if the returns that they got told are realistic.

The amount of people that call me and ask me if they got scamed or how to invest in something because I am "that guy" that they know that's into Computers honestly scares me. I think many countries have a huge problem with basic financial illiteracy. People call me all the time and ask me about investing in crypto currencies etc. or ask me if they were scamed and I often have to tell them that they indeed got scamed. Does that only happen to me or does it also happen to you guys?

Question : Why do they think you know anything about "investing" (maybe you do)? You don't ask a doctor to fix your bathroom.

Sometime it have to do more with "greed" rather than having any financial education. Most of the scam target the people who don't have much money so they take the bait easily.

There should definitely be way more being done about informing people about some of the popular scams these days. I've not had people come to me about whether something's a scam, and luckily no one I know has fallen victim to one.

However my mum did get one of those "we've found your email address tied to these dodgy sites, pay X amount of money or we'll tell your firends and family." so that was a terrifying experience for her as she didn't know at the time that it's a scam attempt.

I'm surprised there aren't adverts on TV, at least not here in the UK warning people about this sort of stuff.

@mr-user well I know how cryptos work and I own a variety of cryptos and I own a few shares of a variety of stocksmyself but I do not claim to be a financial advisor and I really don't actively tell anyone so I don't even think that they know that. I just think that they assume online brokers, stocks and BTC have something to do with computers and that's why they call me. Often they got pushed by someone who wrote them an email or a letter or if they are younger they fell for someone on Instagram that claims to be an investment genius and then they feel scamed but aren't sure of it.
