Voxera113804yAs far as I understand it scrypt (which is what dodgecoin uses) requires much fewer iterations to find a valid hash and the limiting factor is memory, not cpu, and memory draws much less power than cpu’s.

Doesn't matter, whether one pile of crap is better than the other pile of crap.
We currently have no surplus of renewable resources and energy on this planet! -
@ostream
There are more currencies than just the dollar and the Cryptocoins.
The Eurodollar is pretty stable (the cryptocoins are not by the way). -
@ostream
Doesn't matter. It is a stable currency. Any stable currency is good for trading. -
mundo0349074yI started mining DOGe yesterday, pointed the miner to the wrong pool address :)
Only the algo was wrong, so the stupid miner did connect and solved a few, but never got the data ok my account.
Just wasting energy for the fun of it. -
@ostream
Well, everything's value is super volatile, when expressed in BTC - including literally any virtual or non-virtual good you can buy with any currency.
When you are on the highway and literally everyone is driving on the wrong side... -
@ostream
Okay, you found the one exception:
Non-legal stuff with 100%+ profit margins.
It is so much less risky to launder cryptocoins than any other currency, that the absurd volatility is an okayish price to pay...
So yes, for illegal stuff volatility isn't a show stopper.
And also yes, as a consumer you likely have no less-risky way to get what you want (and probably also need by now) than to trade it for cryptocoins.
Another reason to finally stop that horribly failed "war on drugs"...
Something that irks me is the misinformation that the DOGE proof of work is less complex and more energy saving than the BTC proof of work.
BTC: SHA-256
DOGE: SCRYPT (SHA-256 + Some additional steps and higher memory consumption)
