A powerful bitcoin is harmful to the USA. Because the bitcoin-based crypto-economy bypasses the US sanctions. So the more bitcoin is used for international trade more the USA loses its manipulative and coercive control over the world economy. So it is essential to lower the value of bitcoin to maintain the imperial status of USD. A DRAMA that claims to seize bitcoin wallets without having access to the victim (here the attacker is the victim) will decrease the trust and lower the value of bitcoin. Such propaganda may regain the imperial power of the USD over international trade. It can be an insider's work, where the attacker's private key is already known. It can be a made-up story.

    thats political as fuck.

we're supposed to avoid those subjects...

not saying that i disagree either...

except for the decrease in value.
i say thats the market readjusting itself can justify the dip very well.

    also its not an US-thing.

    china reportedly banned bitcoin too.

@bad-frog Yah. But if the political organizations continue doing technological shitfuckery the tech guys should counter that.

    @neel-basu completely agree.

funny thing that the most intelligent people often are the most stupid politically.

got an example in my family:
    a mensa member watching ted-ex...

and dont think the management doesnt know about that and that they didnt take counter-measures.

thence in the 21st century censorship is a perfectly normal way to protect democracy.

to clarify: i wonder how this became a normal train of thought...

    Bitcoin is shit.

@Demolishun Yes. It must be. Because it's a threat to USD.

That’s not how this works. That’s not how any of this works.

Irrespective of what magic ass currency you peg yourself to, the US is still the largest economy in the west and they can still sanction you to shit with a different currency.

A weapons manufacturer in the US isn’t going to magically sell you F15s just because you chose to pay in bitcoin.

@hashedram the us are becoming broke and fast.

if inflation continues as it goes now, bitcoin and other crypto might become a refuge investment.

in fact you can consider bitcoin's recent jump in value as an indicator thereof.

everybody and their aunt have reserves in usd.
    but usd is going down.
if everybody starts selling usd youre gonna get the same situation as in russia a couple of years ago... only worse

as for the F15's, that shit is 60 years old.
    american hardware is a scam.

@JustThat Whatever running on the cloud is a threat to the environment. Even the services for this app.

@ostream "and nah it's not even comparable. Bitcoin algos are energy consuming by design"

calculation-intensive by design. not the same.
and i bet facepalm+twatter+rebbit still takes more energy than miners. while serving one purpose only: to allow one to suck their own dick/cunt without resorting to surgery.
while crypto is a way out of poverty for many.

and even if it was not the case, bitcoin is not the issue.
    energy production is.

bc who gives a fuck about ppl driving teslas if the electricity is made by burning coal

@ostream all processes burn the same amount of energy per unit time. There are many other tasks like video encoding decoding which are also time-consuming. Watching or uploading a video to YouTube is worse for the environment: 1 gram of carbon for every 10 minutes of viewing. If you want to stop computing to save nature then you have to stop using the internet. Burning Electricity is an issue but not the main issue. The main issue is the source of electricity. If the electricity is coming from renewable energy then it's all fine.

@ostream The word "useful" is very subjective. What you consider as useful may not be useful for someone else. Dont try to impossible your value on others.
