I think my next remote job is going to be at least 500 miles or a minimum of four states away to make it harder for someone to spring a “everyone local to the office has to come in for this day of corporate training and indoctrination” on me at the last minute.

“Oh sure I can come in. I’ll be on the lookout for my flight tickets and itinerary”.

Usually makes them scurry off.

    Agree with the sentiment, but caveat: either they will make you come anyway, or you will always be one at the top of the pile to get sacked.
    If they are afraid of losing you (most probable scenario) get ready to fly in the cheapest airline or crawl into the smelliest bus available 3-5 times a year.

    @JsonBoa Yeah you’re not wrong at all there. The notion of potentially being first on the chopping block is an acceptable tradeoff, personally speaking. That said, having very few obligations and an in-demand set of job skills makes that a privilege that I recognize other folks probably can’t absorb as easily with their situations.
