Have anyone ever tried making an NFT of a crypto coin?
Like, you have an NFT of a link to an specific state of the blockchain - "own the highest value transaction ever!"
And try buying it using some other cryptocoin.
And make an NFT of the first time someone used a cryptocoin to buy the NFT of another coin.
And buy THAT NFT with another coin. And so on and so on...
Just trying to cause a too-many-recursions error in reality here.

just accept that crypto (NFT especially) is nothing more than a money grab that works by dazzling idiots with technobabble and wasting electricity.

    and that's the non-cynical version.

@tosensei the non cynical version would be understanding that cryptocurrency (as a technology) has a purpose and a place, but - due to the unregulated nature of open source and the internet - it has been coopted by a lot of scammers, charlatans, and wannabes who can only talk in buzzwords and hype.

Financial scams have existed since the dawn of society, and digital money is no different in that regard. It just so happens that most people seem to completely lose their mind and forget any common sense when they're interacting with it.

The tech is not dumb - people are.

@endor "most people seem to completely lose their mind and forget any common sense when they're interacting with it." - so how is cryptocurrency different from [name a noun]?

@tosensei I don't know, how is a car different from a wooden spoon?
  • 0
@endor it's a bit more complex and usually not made of wood. also: it won't fit in your mouth..

but: ever seen a hormone-filled youngster drive a semi-powerful car?

and: ever seen a toddler use a spoon to eat for the first time?

if you don't right now have a mental image of some hairless ape going totally apeshit, you _haven't_ seen those.
