Used to work in an open office that also included the sales department. Wouldn't have been an issue but sales decided they would celebrate closing big deals with a "sales siren". It must have been a low bar because it happened multiple times a week. Nothing like being super engaged in a huge feature and then being blasted with an air horn or siren so loud it shakes your chest.

Managements response to constantly being so shook you can't work was "wear headphones". A week later they complained that everyone wearing headphones was defeating the purpose of their awesome new open work space 🤦‍♂️

@dubacca I interviewed at a shop that had something like that once, except it was a massive, nearly wall-sized gong.

During the interview someone in sales--on the other side of the BUILDING--closed a deal, gong went off, everyone in the sales wing went nuts.

I asked what it was, got told what it was, and that right there was the end of the interview.

Been in that kind of shop once. Absolutely fucking never again.

@ComputerToucher oh yeah, we were all supposed to stop and cheer. I suggested one of those stock exchange style bells that could be rang whenever a new release was deployed - so once every two weeks - but leadership said it would be too disruptive.

    Never again is right
