I’m worried my manager denies me my role shift because I’m supposedly an invaluable asset to our small team, even though the request has been approved by the higher ups already. I would totally understand, tbh, but it’d suck nonetheless.

I don’t consider myself ambitious, but I’d like to move forward, not just run in place.

Yep, I'm afraid such situations tend to end with a job change.

I sympathize if you don't want to, but be wary, when you are held hostage by bus factor, it's, in my experience, a downslope to burnout.

Talk to him, tell him that you want it and it’s good for you. It’s business I’m pretty sure he’ll understand.

@neriald I will. We agreed for a 1-on-1 morning coffee some day next week. I know they’ll understand my position, but somehow I’m still fearful that there’s some compelling reason why I should stay in my current role instead.

@100110111 there will always be compelling reasons for business. What’s important for you is you.
