So about quitting my job... it didn't quite go as planned. My boss really wants me to stay and I might be looking at a deal that I wouldn't get anywhere else and an opportunity I feel I must explore.

(It's not about money, but I don't want to share details before it's settled.)

Just be aware that they might see you quitting in the future as an unloyal move and decide to fire you once they find a replacement for you

@chonky-quiche I fortunately have a very open & honest relationship with my manager (company owner), which is one reason why I haven't quit long ago already.

But also: I'd have quit anyway so getting fired is not a risk to me.

@saucyatom also while you hold the win why not take the chance to put an vacation too in the list of your requirements. he already know that you need such so that should be easy deal

Even if you get your raise, make sure it doesnt mean very high expectations. I worked with a senior who got a 20 percent bump but now does the job of two senior devs while the main problem (4 out of total 6 devs in the team being completely incompetent) wasnt adressed, since teamlead himself is incompetent. I quit and accepted a 20 percent less paying job but now my workload reduced a lot and Im able to relax. Sometimes money isnt everything. Sometimes taking a chill lesser paying position allows u to freelance on the side which really maximizes your earnings and life balance, at least thats what happened for me.

@We3D I actually do have a lot of days off still but I'll try to get some extra, besides my future 4-day-week ;)

Glad you took the matter in your own hands.

I wouldn't see myself doing this kind of move. I told the manager about it and the boss. If I ever quit, I am gone. If they want me to stay, make some offers before. But gone = gone. I would find it hard to work at a place you planned on leaving, but still stay (for let's be honest only money and extra free days) But the work will still be shit and the senior will still be shit too.

The only small chance is that I leave and start working as a freelancer on the stuff I should maintain from home without all the bullshit.

@Grumm I can somewhat agree, but I feel this is different. For one, I'll be in a position where I can say no to shit work and have the authority to really change things - and mostly on my own terms, as the manager trusts the decisions I make with the tech lead. No other heads above me. Combined with a lot of freedom in terms of how, when and how much I work.

@Grumm 6 weeks off and afterwards I'll work 4 days x 5 hours on hopefully a bit less shit stuff
