Has anyone tried ElementaryOS or is working with it?

    So it could be a good solution also for me as dev? Ive installed it on my moms laptop because windows got fucked up and she just wants some basic apps like a browser and file explorer and stuff. But i need a good ide, web development text editor, vagrant, virtual box, sftp client, [...]

    I used to but gnome is not really my cup of tea. I like plasma a lot more :)

    My parents use it daily and I have, for dev purposes.

    Unless you use virusal studio, you'll probably be fine.

    But for good measure, you can lookup whether your current software exists in a Linux variant :p

    @GodHatesMe people who're only using an internet browser and the file manager usually don't have any problems with Linux (from my experience, at least)

    I used it a lot at my old place and I still often use it now, it honestly does everything I wanted and it's easy to use if you aren't really used to Linux.

    You can customise it to how you want as there's many packages for file explorers and such. It's my go to for any Linux distribution.

    My daily drive is ubuntu mate it works great out of the box and it is easy to customize.
    It gets out of the way so you can focus on your work.

    It's perfect for me on my laptop for development, designing, server-related work, and basically everything else too!
    And, it looks really nice!
