Why do laptop manufacturers have to be such a PITA to Linux?

    They're trying to sell their laptops. Most users use Windows and are used to it. That's probably the main reason.

    Linux is a marginal group. In my opinion, that should remain so.

    @tracktraps I get that, I am not expecting them to ship with Linux. But instead they can start by opening the components that they use. Often there are devs ready to add support. The manufacturers don't release enough info!

    1. Separate your tags with commas, not hashtags.
    2. Welcome to devRant.
    3. Laptop manufacturers are just now starting to ship with Linux (Ubuntu) on request.
    4. You can kiss your warranty goodbye if you ever say the words "dual boot" on a tech support call. I lament this greatly because I feel that society is punishing me for being an above-average technologist in a world dominated by technology.

    @chadd17
    How would dual-booting void your warranty? Do the support people not understand what they are talking about? :P
    Also it seems ThinkPads are pretty good with Linux. My L440 works perfect with every new install. But it is also quite old now, so I don't know about the current models.

    @Jop- Of course. Once Linux is widespread, it becomes a worthwhile target. I have no desire for viruses, trojans or any other shit.
