If ML researchers and programmers are as smart as they need to be to advance the technology, I'm pretty sure they'll think about having failsafes so that their work doesn't put them out of a job.

A day in future - Programmers wrote AI to write code.

Next day, programmer who created that AI will be fired by CEO/CTO/PM, because there are other elements in the company that can write better code.
