I am getting my first apartment next Saturday, and it's awesome. And I was thinking of buying a great desktop computer because my laptop is getting old and I want a real desk with a real modern computer, also as a symbol of my new life coming. It would have costs me around 1300€, but guess what, I just spent that yesterday to pay the real estate agency, the deposit, and the first rent for that apartment 😭 I guess I'll have to wait again for that new pc...

@Lahsen2016 Well, in Paris's suburbs, 1300€ would be the first rent of a 40ish m² apartment. The following rents dropping to 700-800€ since you only pay the agency fee the first time. In center Paris, rents get absolutely crazy, with 9m² studios renting for 400€/month. Well hopefully I'll find something as good as what I have south of Paris when I move, I love my apartment northwest of Paris, but all the jobs that attract me are 1-2hrs away :(

I think you are all missing the point here
When you rent an apartment you have to pay one more than rent to the real estate agent and one month rent for "down payment". So basically before you've set foot in your new apartment you've paid two mo that rent already.

So that would make his rent 650€. More expensive then where I live but I live in Eastern Europe so guess it's probably not that bad

@Froot You were close the truth!! My rent is 570€ including charges, and for the first month I payed 330,96€ for the first month (because of the prorata), 540€ for the caution, and 451€ to the agency. And that hurts

@VonKavalier Yea signing the contract is expensive as fuck. Thankfully you get some of it back when you leave ☺️

That's actually not so expensive in order to live in Paris. I would anticipate it being much more expensive.
