FUCK.

That feeling when you get inspired with an idea for a web app, do a quick search and find out there are already 2-3 sites that offer exactly what you envisioned...

My motivation just sinks so low after cases like this!

PISS.

Turn it the other way around, the fact that it's already been done is a proof of concept, meaning your idea can fly :) Great minds think alike. Now, you can go ahead and make your own version, just way better than the others :)

@TerriToniAX I get where you're coming from, and there is some truth to it. But it's all circumstantial, like the idea is very simple and those web site do implement it right.

Sure I can do another version, but it probably will end up being a near exact copy. Does the internet need that?

@olezhka Yeah, the internet always need competition :) Sure there must be some value to be added to make your version even better? I.e. not only do it right, but do it great! :D

Look at the bad things those site's users are saying, the problems they have, the shortcomings of those services.

    Then make something better.

I agree with the others. The fact that there are other sites already should deter you from building your version. See where it takes you.

Facebook wasn't the first social network. Google wasn't the first search engine.

    Do it better!

Maybe you could use those apps and see if there are functions or features you could improve on if you did it yourself :) I’m sure you could put your own spin on it in such a way that people would find it unique and useful 🙂

Fuck you guys and you inspirational talks, too! I'm doing this.

I do this a lot. Find something that’s already been done then do it myself, often in a different stack. Sometimes it helps to look at tests or their code (if open source). It’s great fun 😊 Glad to see people convinced you!

Do the Long tail. Offer same core functionality, but "lite" edition for little less money. Ppl sometimes don't need all flairs and bells and whistles, maybe they just want one thing with a super clean API. Who knows? If you get rich, gimme 2% as I boosted your moral. 😂

So the idea was to to an online diff checked between two texts.

Additional functionality would be to save it and get a permalink. Saving stuff is not yet implemented, but wanted to share this nontheless. I am no designer, so tried to make it mobile first (and only 😂)

    Url is https://finddiff.com

@olezhka You know what would be an awesome improvement? If you could provide urls instead of text and then it would compare the two sites provided.

@TerriToniAX interesting thought, but how would that work?

@olezhka Just open the location specified by the url for reading, and then use the buffer as text. Has to be done server-side of course :)
