My 2tb portable external hard disk is messed up :( . The disk isn't spinning. It is under warranty but I am so depressed.

Thats why you make backups. (Meanwhile my pc has zero redundancy, but I don't have the moneyz for a hdd.

@DjSall I bought a laptop with minimal storage and relied more on my external HDD :( They said it can be replaced but data recovery is pretty expensive, almost 70% cost of the HDD cost.

You can try to spin the enclosure, to help the platters overcome the friction and build up angular momentum. Sometimes the lubrication of the bearings stops to do its job and the motor can't overcome the friction anymore.

But since you said it was still under warranty, I don't think it'll help. The disk is probably too new for this sort of thing to happen.

@7400 yes, bought it last year, the warranty is usually a year but the stores had an offer which extended the warranty for 2 more years. I haven't even tried opening the case for the fear of loosing the option of replacement. I am going to loose all my data. :(
