I'd totally do this, but use my new found time for new languages, side projects and maybe slide an hour or so here or there to game. Just think about other jobs (and more pay) he could have got if he'd just have stayed on top of his coding game.

If he had to sell that bot, he'd earned more than that 😂

I'd automate my job if it was possible (or pay someone a portion of my salary if it wasn't) and use my new free time to pick up other skills, and/or do a second job.

Knowing me, I'd spend 6 years tweaking those script and adding in "features" that aren't really needed.

So he just automated the tests.
Why fire him for he reduced (automated) the work... Isn't that a good thing for tester.

He would have had to maintain that automation suite also. For all those years...

The article stated that the code the Chinese people produced was high quality. The employer was paying for quality development, and that's what the employee delivered. I'd hire him.
