I seriously can't decide whether I'd rather be a front or back-end dev...

    Javascript can do both.

    Do both, I do :-)

If you like to build user interfaces only (e.g. views in laravel) go with frontend,
else if you like work with db and managing data (e.g. controllers, routes & models in laravel) go with backend.

If you are good at design then do front-end otherwise do back-end.

You know there is a significant market for full-stack developers, right? Knowing both sides is encouraged, although we all generally settle on some sort of specialism after a while. Go with your passion... what really excites you. What gives you the greatest sense of accomplishment?

I get this overwhelming feeling of self doubt when it comes to full stack, that I'd be throwing too much pressure onto myself

@magis To my mind, the very fact you're questioning where you fit suggests you have skills for both. That doesn't mean you need to become an expert in all areas. Having enough ability to contribute in either area would be really beneficial for most teams.

But if you need to pick one for your own sanity, then do so. It's not going to be set in stone either. If you focus on one now and later find yourself missing the other, you can change. Bit of learning and catch-up required obviously, but achievable.

Full Stack dev here, if you're good in both then try to grow in both. Study when you have extra time, and make decisions on questions like yours only after you've exhausted your "experiments."
