Does anyone know any good audio editing software my friend wants to start working on getting into the audio industry and I as the tech nerd friend want to help him

Adobe Audition is pretty good if he has access to Adobe. I prefer Logic myself, but you need a Mac

Ableton Live, Cubase, Fruity Loops?

@YoungWebRebelz true Cubase is also pretty good. Fruity Loops not so much of you're looking to record. Great for remixing and coming up with beats though

To begin with, Audacity is a good first program, the UI isn't the best but gets the work done.
I have a friend in the audio industry and he uses CUBASE, it's a professional tool and is loaded with functionality.
If his intent is to get real projects done right, start right off with CUBASE right from the beginning.

FL Studio and it's free look alike LMMS are also good intermediate options.

For editing (as opposed to sequencing) I'd have a first look at audacity mentioned above. It has support for plugins as well but is not as centered around making music.

If it is more about music then most standard software is already mentioned. But even if I don't use it I feel obliged to say that Pro Tools is one of the industry standards that you probably will have to work with at some point.

Myself I use Tracktion for my private music projects. It has an amazingly fast and simple one screen workflow. Been doing both music and IT for 30+ years and even if I own Logic as well I can't stand it. Actually wired up virtual midi and audio bussing so I can access Logics sound and effects without having the hassle of the interface. Got some sweet amps in there :)

Reaper is a cheap and competent alternative if you are more into the workflow of Cubase, Logic etc.

I would say if you're planning on going all out, use studio one. My father was talking with professional audio engineers, and all of them said they use studio one due to its customization and power it goves to the user. It's pretty much the Linux of the audio world.

It is expencive, so watch out.
