16 GB RAM and my IntelliJ can't handle a gradle refresh.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Same, I'm pretty sure that the one to blame is gradle πŸ˜‚

    Intellij just wants to be like Chrome and devour all of your RAM. I have 24 GB of RAM and I still have the same issue! 😑

    Well surprisingly there is more to a pc than ram 🎩

    Have you daemonized Gradle?

    Downgrade IDE.

    At work I had issues with latest versions of PyCharm. It freezed, crashed, raised running low on memory... Downgraded it to previous version and it worked smoothly again. There were threads on forum about that issues, but they insisted it is CPU related. Weird it worked on exact same machines (same components) my coworkers have, but had the issues on other ones.

    @blem14
    So, you could say that it worked like a charm?

    At my workplace I upgraded mainly for Idea and slack (and similar electron wrappers) from a MacBook Pro with 16 GB of ram to a new 64gb workstation because it was literally unusable

    Constantly struggling with swapping 3GB even after closing everything but idea and a Firefox

    When I start a debugging process with ~10 Java modules in IntelliJ my audio scratches, but not lag.

    Sounds like Scala
