For the text, try removing the semi-transparent box behind it. I assume you added that to make it stand out more, so if that's an issue, perhaps increase the drop shadow/add a thin border to the text to make it more pronounced(not 3d) I assume you're already using this, but: https://design.google.com/
See what they have to say in a case like this. The semitransparent bg clashes with the material look I'm used to.
