I don't hate closed source, but it's kind of like having a girlfriend who keeps reminding you that you must absolutely never look at the messages on her phone.

It's difficult to build trust that way, you know.

There have been too many small incidents with closed source software, from Skype to uTorrent to CCleaner all being fronts to push malware. Trust has worn paper thin.

So https://alternativeto.net is one of my most visited websites, I push my unavoidable closed source stuff into sandboxed VMs, drop support for them whenever I can find an alternative.

Especially the small tools should opt to be crossplatform open source donationware in my opinion... I have literally donated to ever open source product I'm using, from Mint and Debian to Inkscape, Bleachbit, qBittorrent (haha have a whole bitcoin, whatever that's worth these days), openTTD, etc.

So I don't hate closed source... I'll just treat it like a leprous ebola patient who just made out with a smallpox carrier.

Nearly entirely agree with @bittersweet. (that last sentence hahahaha xD) Although I also strongly dislike/hate closed source out of principle :)
